Antonio Brown fined $8,200 for cleating Spencer Lanning

The Steelers wideout went viral for his actions in a matter of minutes, but it will cost him a considerable sum.

The NFL fined Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown $8,200 for cleating Cleveland Browns punter Spencer Lanning in the face during a punt return in the second quarter of the team's Week 1 season opener, according to NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport.

The play in question involved a brutal kick to Lanning’s face as Brown broke loose against Pittsburgh’s rival. Instead of avoiding him, he went through him:

The Steelers received a 15-yard penalty on the play. What’s worse from Brown’s standpoint is that the punter appeared to be the last man to beat on the path to the end zone. Instead of dodging Lanning and collecting six points, he attempted to hurdle him, and drew the ire of the league office.

But at the same time, he inspired all kinds of savory viral goodness.

As the Internet tends to do, it had a field day with the move, which yielded plenty of fodder for laughter. One such production involved an apparently unreleased version of The Karate Kid:

For his part, Lanning was a good sport about it and made light of a potentially embarrassing situation:

No harm done, apparently. Except when it comes to Brown's wallet.
