Adrian Peterson indicted for reckless or negligent injury to child, per report

The All Pro running back is reportedly facing charges in Houston.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted for reckless or negligent injury to a child in Montgomery County, Texas, according to Mark Berman of Fox 26 in Houston.

The investigation, which has reportedly been going on for some time, stems from Peterson disciplining a child with a switch, a source told Ian Raport of NFL Network. A switch is a thin branch or rod used for whipping.

In a police report obtained by Sports Radio 610 in Houston, Peterson admitted that he did “whoop” one of his sons last May. According to the report, the 4-year-old boy returned to Minnesota with lacerations and bruises that prompted his mother to take him to the hospital. The boy then told the doctor that Peterson had lashed him with a tree branch.

The doctor told police that the he found cuts on the boy’s arms and hand and “bruise-like marks” on his lower back and buttocks. The doctor referred to the damage as “child abuse” in the report.

Fox 26 claims Peterson’s Houston attorney, Rusty Hardin, declined to comment on the matter.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that Peterson must now turn himself in to Houston police, throwing doubt on his availability this Sunday against the New England Patriots.

The team has issued the following statement: “The Vikings are in the process of gathering information regarding the legal situation involving Adrian Peterson. At this time, we will defer further questions to Adrian’s attorney Rusty Hardin.”

Peterson missed practice on Thursday and the Vikings did not offer an explanation, though they did say the absence was not injury related, according to Pro Football Talk.

The All-Pro running back, who is originally from Palestine, Texas, owns an offseason home in Houston.
