The fallout from the Adrian Peterson child abuse case continues to build. Nike announced Wednesday that it suspended its endorsement contract with Peterson.
Nike, Castrol suspend sponsorships with Adrian Peterson
Nike has suspended its endorsement contract with Adrian Peterson.
“Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and has shared our concerns with the NFL. We have suspended our contract with Adrian Peterson.”
Nike is the second company to terminate an endorsement contract with Peterson, joining Castrol Oil, which announced on Tuesday that it ended its relationship with the Vikings running back.
Peterson was indicted last week for reckless/negligent injury of a child and was deactivated by the Vikings for their Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots on Sunday. The team announced on Monday that it had reinstated Peterson, allowing him to return to practice. He was expected to play in Sunday’s game versus the New Orleans Saints.
At nearly 2 a.m. ET Wednesday morning, the Vikings changed course and announced that Peterson had been placed on the exempt/commissioner's permission list until the running back sorts through his legal troubles. Peterson is barred from all team activities while on the list, but will be paid during his leave.
