Jim Harbaugh refutes 49ers locker room rumors as ‘crap’

The 49ers head coach responds to the rumors that his plays want him fired.

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

Reports surfaced over the weekend that San Francisco 49ers players want head coach Jim Harbaugh ousted, even after the team got a hard-earned win at home over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon. During his Monday media availability, the 49ers' coach refuted these reports in typical Harbaugh fashion.

The rumors first surfaced Sunday night with a report by NFL Media’s Deion Sanders.

“They want him out. They’re not on the same page,” Sanders said. “I really want to know if they’re really playing for the head coach. I got a question with that. Are you really down with your head coach, San Francisco 49ers? Because the way it looks and what I’m hearing, you’re really not down for your head coach. And that’s a problem.

“They really got some problems that we hear rumblings. We all know people inside locker rooms.”

While Harbaugh rejects that his job is on the line, he also denied reports that San Francisco nearly dealt him to the Cleveland Browns this summer. While it's unclear exactly how serious those talks were, the Browns declined the opportunity to outright deny them.

Rumors have connected Harbaugh to his alma mater, Michigan, where current head coach Brady Hoke faces heavy criticism for his team’s poor performance and issues with player safety.
