Rex Ryan interested in reunion with Mark Sanchez, Dan Quinn favorite for Falcons job

Rex and Mark back together in Buffalo? The new Bills head coach said he’ll consider signing his old quarterback if he hits the market.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Now that Rex Ryan has taken over the Bills, could he be headed for a reunion with Mark Sanchez?

“He’ll certainly be under consideration,” Ryan said when asked whether he’ll look into bringing his former quarterback on to compete with EJ Manuel in Buffalo.

Ryan and Sanchez saw some up-and-down years together with the Jets, making it to consecutive AFC Championships in their first two seasons together before sliding into decline. But after being jettisoned in New York in favor of Geno Smith, Sanchez found new life in Philadelphia in 2014, throwing for 2,418 yards and 14 touchdowns after taking over for an injured Nick Foles.

If the Eagles and Sanchez can't reach a deal on a new contract, he'll hit the open market this offseason. His old coach may be waiting to scoop him up.

Dan Quinn now the Falcon’s top choice

First it was Rex Ryan. Then it was Todd Bowles. With their candidates dwindling, Atlanta has now set its sights on Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Since the Seahawks are still playing, the Falcons can't interview him until after the NFC Championship this weekend. But according to Schefter, "Atlanta is willing to wait for Quinn and Quinn is willing to wait for them." In the meantime, the Falcons will sit down with Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, but he has major ground to make up to win the job.

Ryan was owner Arthur Blank’s rumored top choice but signed with the Bills. Bowles, who was reported to be the next in line, was hired to replace Ryan in New York.

Adam Gase interviews for Broncos job

In the wake of Denver’s surprising split with John Fox, the Broncos are turning their attention toward one of the hottest names on the head coaching circuit -- one that’s right under their noses. General manager John Elway sat down with offensive coordinator Adam Gase on Wednesday to discuss the head coach vacancy, according to Mike Klis of The Denver Post.

Gase was considered one of the front runners to land the head coach job with the 49ers, but the latest reports indicate that San Francisco is promoting defensive line coach Jim Tomsula. With options dwindling for both sides, there's a chance Gase could end up sticking around in Denver.

OC Bill Callahan not expected back with Cowboys

Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan was stripped of his play calling duties in 2014 and was prevented from interviewing with other teams last year, so it’s no surprise that he doesn’t plan on sticking around in Dallas. Callahan does not plan to re-sign with the Cowboys, according to Pro Football Talk.

Both the Browns and Jaguars are rumored to be interested in bringing Callahan in as an offensive coordinator.

While it looks like they’ll lose their OC, Dallas did manage to re-sign head coach Jason Garrett and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli earlier this week.
