The Indianapolis Colts are preparing to give Andrew Luck the richest contract in the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who used the phrase “blockbuster mega deal” when describing the parameters of the deal. Luck finished third in the NFL with 4,761 passing yards and first with 40 passing touchdowns during the regular season, and could take the Colts to the Super Bowl with a win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Colts preparing to give Andrew Luck richest contract in NFL, according to report
The Colts are readying a “blockbuster mega deal” for Andrew Luck, according to Adam Schefter. Luck still has one year left on the four-year rookie contract he signed in 2012.

Luck, the No. 1 overall pick in 2012, will be entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract in 2015. Given his youth and how well he has lived up to his draft selection, it’s little surprise that the Colts are preparing to give Luck a big extension. Luck joined Peyton Manning and Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to throw for more than 4,000 yards in two of their first three seasons, and became the third-fastest player in NFL history surpass 12,000 career passing yards.
If the Colts beat the Patriots in the AFC Championship on Sunday, Luck will also become the first No. 1 overall draft pick to reach the Super Bowl within his first three seasons. The feat is all the more impressive considering the Colts were 2-14 the year before Luck joined the team.
Currently, Jay Cutler is the “richest” man in the NFL after signing a seven-year extension with the Chicago Bears worth $126.7 million. $54 million of which was guaranteed. If Luck is given a bigger contract, he may not hold on to the “richest man” title long, with Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks also expected to command top dollar as his rookie deal nears completion.
