Super Bowl 2015: President Obama set for pregame interview with NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie

The president of the free world will sit down for an interview during the lead-up to the Super Bowl.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Interviewing the President of the United States has become a Super Bowl Sunday tradition. That tradition will continue this year as President Barack Obama is scheduled to sit down for an interview with NBC prior to Sunday's Super Bowl.

Last year, it was Bill O’Reilly interviewing Obama for FOX, which held the rights to the big game. This time around, NBC has tabbed Savannah Guthrie to speak with the president for a one-on-one interview. The segment is expected to air during the 4 p.m. ET hour of NBC’s pregame coverage.

Obama’s interview last year covered a range of timely issues topics, from the hiccups that plagued the health care website to the Benghazi attack. He usually gets asked for a prediction for the game, but dodging that question has also become part of the tradition.

Guthrie, 43, has been co-anchoring Today with Matt Lauer since 2012, when Ann Curry was dismissed after only a year in the position. Guthrie recently signing a three-year deal to remain on the show. Guthrie graduated from Georgetown’s law school as Magna Cum Laude in 2002 before joining NBC News in 2007. She worked as the network’s White House Correspondent before joining Today in 2011 as the show’s chief legal editor.
