It has been an eventful couple of weeks, with the upcoming Super Bowl and the events of Media Day on Tuesday dominating headlines, all culminating in Super Bowl 49 on Sunday. There is one last big event before kickoff, however: the NFL Honors show on Saturday night, where the yearly awards will be given out to the top players in the league. The NFL Honors show is also when the official Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2015 will be announced.
NFL Hall of Fame 2015: Class of 2015 to be announced at NFL Honors
Kurt Warner, Orlando Pace and Junior Seau are among finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2015, which will be revealed Saturday night.
The pool of finalists for this year was narrowed down to 15 in early January, down from a list of 26 names from back in November 2014. The list includes former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis and safety John Lynch, and coaches Don Coryell, Tony Dungy and Jimmy Johnson.
It's a strong pool, as always, and has already had some big names cut from it. Some players who didn't make the cut in their first year of eligibility include Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt and Edgerrin James.
The full list of finalists includes Warner, Davis, Lynch, Orlando Pace, Junior Seau, Morten Andersen, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Kevin Greene, Charles Haley, Marvin Harrison, Will Shields, coaches Coryell, Duny and Johnson, and contributors Bill Polian and Ron Wolf. Mick Tingelhoff is the lone senior finalist.
Pace, Warner and Seau are the biggest standouts among the player finalists. Warner led the Rams to a Super Bowl win, and then led the Arizona Cardinals to another in a losing effort. Pace protected Warner's blind side in St. Louis, and Seau put up eight All-Pro selections and was the 1992 defensive player of the year.
The Hall of Fame announcement will occur during the NFL Honors show, which begins at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday. It will be broadcast on NBC from Phoenix Symphony Hall in Phoenix, Ariz.
