Rey Maualuga out with hamstring injury
The Bengals linebacker was carted into the locker room in the first half.
The Cincinnati Bengals' defense will have to go the rest of the way without its starting middle linebacker. Rey Maualuga has been carted into the locker room with a right hamstring injury and will not return to the AFC Wild Card game against the Indianapolis Colts, according to the team.
Maualuga hobbled off the field early in the second quarter, just a play after chasing T.Y. Hilton down the sideline on a 30-yard pass play.
It isn’t the first time that Maualuga, who is ninth on the team with 59 tackles, has had this issue. He missed four games earlier this season with a serious hamstring injury.
The good news is that his previous absence gave plenty of snaps to his backup, Nico Johnson, who saw time during the Bengals' previous matchup with the Colts back in Week 7. Cincinnati's other reserve linebacker, Marquis Flowers, has injured his ankle and is questionable to return.
