On paper, Sunday's matchup between Eli Manning and Tyrod Taylor looks like a mismatch. However, in the unpredictable world of the NFL, maybe there is something that the two-time Super Bowl winner can do to give his New York Giants a chance against Taylor and the Buffalo Bills.
Giants vs. Bills 2015 picks and predictions: Buffalo picked to win at home
Tyrod Taylor is heavily favored over Eli Manning in this New York battle.
The Bills come into the game with a 2-1 record, with comfortable wins over the Colts and Dolphins on either side of a 40-32 shootout loss to the red-hot Patriots. The Giants, on the other hand are 1-2, having lost close games to Dallas and Atlanta before finally breaking into the win column over dysfunctional Washington.
Manning will be facing a tough Rex Ryan defense that shut down Andrew Luck and forced Ryan Tannehill into three interceptions, and it appears that he will be doing it without Victor Cruz. Cruz returned to practice for the first time in six weeks Wednesday, but his injured calf forced a quick end to the day. That means the Giants will have to rely more on their running game, which is only averaging 3.6 yards per carry.
New York will also have to shut down a revamped Buffalo offense that has seen Taylor go from a relative unknown to the brink of stardom. Last week, he shredded the Dolphins in the first road start of his career, going 21 of 29 for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Taylor has found a pair of favored targets in Percy Harvin and Charles Clay, while rookie Karlos Williams stepped in for the injured LeSean McCoy (hamstring) and put up 110 yards and a touchdown.
With the Giants looking fragile and Buffalo surging, it is no surprise that most experts are picking the Bills to pick up a home win on Sunday. At CBS, the Bills were picked by seven of eight writers, while SB Nation’s own panel has a clean sweep for Buffalo.
