REVOLUTIONIZING BLOCKING: While most of the league scrambles to find five functional offensive linemen, the Patriots are deliberately shuffling theirs. They have 10 different combinations, and have used nine this season, for different plays. It's working brilliantly.
The Patriots are changing the game ... again
The wildest offensive innovation in the NFL right now is coming from New England, of course. Also, hurricane troubles for Week 4, a trade and ‘Thursday Night Football’.
HURRICANE TROUBLES: The NFL may have to postpone or move the Philadelphia vs. Washington game this weekend, scheduled for 1 p.m. at FedEx Field in exurban Washington, because of Hurricane Joaquin. Postponing it would make it more likely that DeSean Jackson would get to face his old team, something he’s not expected to do this week.
PATS DEALING: The Saints sent defensive end Akiem Hicks to the Patriots in exchange for tight end Michael Hoomanawanui on Wednesday evening. Patriots fans seem to think they’ve landed a good player in need of a scenery change. The Saints beefed up their tight end corps, which was depleted in the wake of the Jimmy Graham trade this spring.
SHORT WEEK: The Steelers and Ravens have the honor of limping into tonight’s Thursday Night Football matchup. The 0-3 Ravens are slight favorites. The key matchup here will be backup quarterback Michael Vick against the Ravens’ defense after a short week of practice.
KILLER VICTORIES: All this winning is really getting to John Elway.
EMBARRASSED: Rex Ryan can’t stop talking about that Patriots game from Week 2. He thinks Bill Belichick was trying to embarrass them ... NO WAY!
UNLUCKY: Guess who showed up on the injury report this week? Andrew Luck. But he still expects to play this week.
NOT SURPRISED: Cam Newton had the PERFECT comment for the whole Ed Hochuli “not old enough” affair.
GINGER AVENGER: Let Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick explain the secret behind Andy Dalton’s incredible start to the season.
AGE BEFORE BEAUTY: The Cardinals have played their way to the top of the NFC with old players.
10 MEN: The Browns couldn’t score from the 1-yard line against just 10 defenders because they ran the worst play possible.
RAIDERS QB: After years of searching, the Raiders have finally found a legitimate franchise quarterback. Just look at how good Derek Carr is.
GETTING STARTED: Julio Jones is the best receiver in the NFL right now. Guess what? He can be better.
