New Dolphins coach Dan Campbell has Miami rolling, winning his first two games by a combined score of 82-36. Those games, though, were against a bad Tennessee Titans team and a Houston Texans roster that seemed uninterested in playing the game. Thursday night, the New England Patriots will provide Campbell a much bigger test.
Dolphins vs. Patriots 2015 picks and predictions: New England favored to go to 7-0
The Patriots are almost unanimously selected to end Dan Campbell’s winning streak in Miami.
Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have the Patriots at 6-0, and people are already talking about the likelihood of another 16-0 season. They've got the league's best offense yet again, scoring at least 28 points in every game, and while Campbell's adjustments on the defensive line have improved Miami's run defense, that's not all that important against New England. The Dolphins are still vulnerable to the pass, which makes Brady the worst possible opponent.
Offensively, Campbell has turned Miami from a pass-happy scheme to a balanced attack, and Lamar Miller has responded with 288 yards at 8.7 per carry in the two victories. That has allowed Ryan Tannehill to use more play-action passes, and there has also been a schematic change that has put more quick throws into the game plan. The result is that Tannehill has ranked as Pro Football Focus' third-best quarterback over the last two weeks.
Miami is going to need everything it can get from Miller and Tannehill, because the Dolphins aren't likely to be the first team to slow down New England's offense. A big factor could be Ndamukong Suh, who had a huge game against Houston after being moved back to his preferred spot on the outside shoulder of a guard. If he can disrupt Brady's timing, the Dolphins might have a shot at an upset.
However, the experts don’t think it likely. All eight selectors at CBS Sports are picking New England to move to 7-0, and the only person picking against them at SB Nation is PFT Commenter, though he might think Don Shula is coaching Miami.
