NFL owners ready for backroom dealing for Los Angeles return

Owners are meeting Wednesday to hash out the plan for the league’s return to the nation’s second-largest media market.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

LOS ANGELES VIA NYC: NFL owners have assembled for their fall meetings at the Waldorf Astoria in New York for their fall meeting. Topping the agenda: Los Angeles. The bottom line, for now, is that nobody knows what’s going to happen in 2016 -- that’s what the owners are here to decide, but not this week.

ROOMIES: The idea of the Chargers sharing Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s Inglewood stadium once seemed far fetched. Now, it’s one possible brokered solution to satisfying two of the three teams eyeing the L.A. market.

ST. LOUIS STADIUM: St. Louis city aldermen are threatening to block the city’s financial commitment to the proposed stadium project there until the mayor presents a plan to deal with more pressing problems, namely the city’s skyrocketing crime rates. That project did land a naming rights sponsor, but it’s far from a done deal. A new report reveals that the city’s financial commitment to the project could cost way more than the stadium backers are telling people.

DOLPHIN MESS: Dolphins owner Stephen Ross fired his head coach over the phone because he was overseas. It shouldn’t be a surprise; the Dolphins are a mess because of Ross.

WEEK 5 PICKS: Our panel picked all the games for Week 5.

PUNCHES: The Bills accused Odell Beckham of throwing punches during last week’s game.

THE BAT: Even the Seahawks were surprised by that illegal batting rule.

NEW COMMISSIONER: The NFL should go ahead and make Bill Belichick commissioner, or at least the head of the competition committee.

GAME MANAGER: Does Peyton Manning need to become more of a game managing quarterback in his twilight years?

BIG BEN: Roethlisberger is not close to returning.

TRADE RUMORS: More than one NFL team is reportedly interested in Vikings receiver/return man Cordarrelle Patterson.

FARMER RETURNS: Browns GM Ray Farmer returned from his suspension and is shaking up the roster.

GRAHAM BLOCKER: Jimmy Graham is a blocking tight end now. Field Gulls looks at the tape.

FRAUD: Buzz Bissinger is not a fan of Chip Kelly.

DALTON’S FOE: Andy Dalton is having a great season, but there’s one thing he’s really struggling with still.

FANTASY CORNER: Need a little help for your roster? Better check out the latest waiver wire video to see who you should pick up this week.
