The Chicago Bears had every reason to lose last weekend. They were leading the Raiders 19-17 in the fourth quarter, and in range for a Robbie Gould field goal when Jay Cutler did what Jay Cutler does: Get intercepted by 206-year-old Charles Woodson.
Bears vs. Chiefs 2015 picks and predictions: Kansas City big favorites despite 3-game losing streak
The experts don’t think the Bears can build on their dramatic win over Raiders.
The Raiders drove down the field and took a 20-19 lead with 2:10 to play. The Bears could have given up -- they seemed doomed for a 0-16 season even though they're in the same division as the Lions -- but Cutler got them in field-goal range and Gould was the hero with the game-winning kick as time expired.
Now the Bears get a chance to build on that game when they face the 1-3 Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Chicago is a significant underdog, but if Cutler is ever going to have one of his occasional big games, this might be the place. Kansas City is giving up 295.5 yards a game through the air, and has allowed 11 touchdown passes against just two interceptions. A lot of that damage was done by Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Andy Dalton, but Houston threw for 298 yards using Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.
The Chiefs haven't recovered from their Thursday night meltdown against the Broncos in Week 2. They were on their way to 2-0 -- at one point, Pro Football Reference gave them a 98-percent chance of victory -- before giving up two touchdowns in the last 36 seconds. Lopsided losses to Green Bay and Cincinnati followed, and they are in serious trouble.
The experts, though, think they can handle Chicago at home. Seven of eight panelists at CBS Sports pick the Chiefs, and it is also 7-1 for Kansas City here at SB Nation’s NFL Tower.
