Arian Foster takes a hit to the head, goes back into the game

Arian Foster left Thursday’s game against the Colts with an injury, and put himself back in the game without the trainers’ consent. He was ultimately cleared and did return in the second half.

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster left Thursday's game against the Indianapolis Colts with an apparent injury. Foster went down hard on his shoulder and took a hard hit to his head on a play in the second quarter. Foster actually left the game after the hit, and while the trainers were discussing what to do with him, Foster went back onto the field on his own until the end of the drive, according to the NFL Network broadcast.

Following the end of the drive, Foster was seen with the trainers on the bench, along with the league’s independent neurologist. They took his helmet from him. The independent neurologist is supposed to take control and stop the team from allowing Foster to go back onto the field. Foster was seen as being very angry on the sideline, likely after they told him he’d have to go back to the locker room.

Whatever the case, Foster was ultimately cleared and returned to the game at the start of the second half. Even with Foster being cleared eventually, the Texans organization and Foster himself will likely have some questions to answer.

Here’s another look at the hit:

Foster is the team's starting running back, and had 12 carries for 25 yards before leaving Thursday's game. This is the second game he's played in this season, carrying the ball eight times for just 10 yards against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4. Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes are his primary backups.
