Thanks to their residence in the downtrodden NFC East, the New York Giants (5-5) and Washington (4-6) are both in the thick of the playoff hunt despite neither owning a winning record. The two teams face off on Sunday afternoon with first place in the division on the line.
NFL picks and predictions, Giants vs. Washington 2015: New York favored to win NFC East battle
The Giants have won their last five games against Washington by a margin of nearly 15 points per game.
The NFC East is begging for someone to step up and actually try to win it. At 5-5, the Giants are looking down at everyone else, but their one-game lead could be history if they don’t take care of business on the road Sunday at Washington.
The most glaring issue for the Giants this season has been their inability to finish games. They’ve blown fourth-quarter leads in four of their five losses. In each of those contests, the go-ahead points were scored by the opponent in the last two minutes of regulation. A date with their division rival just might be the perfect medicine to cure these late-game woes. New York has won its last five matchups against Washington by a margin of nearly 15 points per game.
Washington has a chance to move into first place with a victory over the Giants, but its stay at the top might be short-lived if it can’t find a way to win outside the nation’s capital. They are 0-5 on the road and have been outscored by more than two touchdowns per game. None of that matters on Sunday because they host the Giants at FedEx Field, where they are 4-1 and averaging 27 points per game. Still, if they want to win the division, they’ll likely have to beat the Cowboys and Eagles on the road in the final two weeks of the season.
The experts aren’t buying Washington’s homefield advantage in this matchup. Over at ESPN, 11 of the 13 guys are going with the Giants. It’s a similar story at CBS Sports with six of eight panelists taking New York. Our SB Nation crew agrees, too, as the majority are favoring the Giants.
