PANTHERS WIN, BARLEY: The Carolina Panthers are still undefeated, but their seventh win didn’t come easy as the Colts (and some of the worst officiating we’ve seen all season) forced overtime.
Andrew Luck is not a good quarterback anymore, except when he is
The Colts quarterback looked terrible for three quarters before flashing some of his old brilliance during late rally in a loss to the Panthers. So what’s up? Also, Kaepernick benched and the NFL trade deadline.

WHAT’S UP WITH LUCK: Andrew Luck started the game by playing terrible. He had a passer rating of 1 through three quarters and into the fourth before going 18 for 29 with 197 yards and two touchdowns to almost lead the Colts on a big comeback. So, what’s going on here?
BENCHED: The 49ers are benching Colin Kaepernick, replacing him with Blaine Gabbert. It’s a shocking fall for a QB who helped get the team to a Super Bowl in 2012. Fans are not optimistic that the change will have the desired impact.
MONDAY NIGHT’S BEST MOMENTS: Ted Ginn had a great game, except for dropping what would have been the game winner. Do not try to fight Cam Newton, or his lineman will sit on you. Cam’s spin and leap over the Colts defense was amazing.
BANNER NIGHT: Some protesters rappelled off the upper decks of BOA Stadium to unfurl a banner protesting fracking and the pollution it causes.
TRADE DEADLINE -- The NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET Tuesday. Keep track of all the rumors and moves right here.
DAVIS SAYS GOODBYE: The 49ers sent Vernon Davis to the Denver Broncos on Monday. Torrey Smith got video of Davis saying goodbye to the team he’s been with since San Francisco drafted him in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He also said goodbye with a Facebook message Tuesday morning.
ERIC WEDDLE: The Chargers are shopping safety Eric Weddle, who’s in the last year of his deal with the team. Given the dire need for safeties around the league, they could easily find a willing partner. The Chargers have since denied it.
ALEX MACK OUT: Cross the Browns center off the potential trades list. He made it clear that he has a no-trade clause in his contract and won’t be leaving Cleveland this year (as for the opt out clause in his contract after the season, who knows).
NINERS INJURIES: All of the 49ers’ running backs are injured, pretty much. Reggie Bush has a torn MCL, and Mike Davis is having surgery. They signed Shaun Draughn to fill the void and Jarryd Hayne is back on the practice squad.
DUELING CELEBRATIONS: The Steelers were mad about Vontaze Burfict reportedly celebrating after Le’Veon Bell was injured. Now, the Bengals are mad about the Steelers reportedly celebrating Marvin Jones’ injury. CHILDREN!
DODGED A BULLET: The Eagles reportedly offered Sam Bradford a big four-year contract before the season started.
PEYTON MILESTONE AHEAD: Peyton Manning is playing well again, and he’ll probably become the NFL’s all-time leading passer next week.
POWER RANKINGS: The weekly power rankings are out, and there’s a new team in the top three spots.
