CAN’T BLOCK: Martellus Bennett does not like it when people complain about tight ends being one-dimensional. It sure sounds like he wants more targets in the Bears offense, but he makes a good point about not complaining: “Because when you say something you become the asshole even if it’s a valid point.”
Jimmy Graham ‘can’t block worth s--t’ and that’s okay
It’s true. But Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is actually making a bigger point about tight ends in the NFL.
STILL PERFECT: There was a game last night. It was boring. The Bengals are now 8-0 on the season after a 31-10 win over the Browns. The most impressive thing about it was Cincy’s offense, Tyler Eifert had three touchdowns to give himself the league lead in receiving scores.
JOHNNY FOOTBALL: It wasn’t all bad for the Browns. Johnny Manziel played a solid game, especially when he could get outside of the pocket.
NEW UNIFORMS: The NFL unveiled special new uniforms exclusively for Thursday Night Football games, and ... yuck.
DETROIT CLEANS HOUSE: The Lions fired their GM and team president on Thursday, and pretty much everyone but head coach Jim Caldwell. Sheldon White is the interim GM, and team owner Martha Ford demonstrated just how pissed off a 90-year-old can get when people run her team into the ground. Everyone is volunteering to be the interim.
WHAT IT MEANS: Nobody is safe. There may not be more firings right now, but changes are coming once the season ends. It also means that Matthew Stafford’s time in Detroit could be over once the season ends, too. The Lions have invested heavily in him, without much to show for it. His contract situation gives them options.
DISCUSSION: We talked about the Lions’ housecleaning and all the other firings this week on the podcast.
NEXT ROUND OF FIRINGS: The situation continues to dissolve in Indianapolis. Players held a players-only meeting, and one of the issues discussed was reportedly the front office meddling in lineup decisions.
WINSTON: Jameis Winston is having a solid rookie season.
EVOLUTION OF CAM: As Cam Newton goes, so go the Panthers. Jenny Vrentas at the MMQB has a great profile of Newton’s evolving style of play and just how much he means to the Panthers.
