Now that the college football regular season is finished, NFL fans get an extra night of football watching this week when the Dallas Cowboys host the New York Jets in prime time on Saturday. Although the teams have nearly inverse records -- Dallas is 4-9 while New York is 8-5 -- both are still somehow in the playoff hunt.

The Jets are trying to win four games in a row for the first time since 2010.
Left for dead after a crushing loss to the Houston Texans in Week 11, the Jets have rebounded to win their last three games and have put themselves in prime position to play meaningful football in January. With a top-10 offense and defense, they appear ready to make a serious playoff push and earn the franchise's first postseason berth since 2010.
However, nothing is guaranteed for the Jets. They still have to face the Patriots, who have already clinched the AFC East, next week and then finish off with a tough road trip to Buffalo for the season finale. The Jets own just one win against the Patriots in the last five seasons, and haven't beaten the Bills on the road since 2011.
The Cowboys' flickering playoff hopes were nearly extinguished with Sunday's demoralizing loss to the Packers. They are now two games back in the NFC East race with three to go, and need to run the table -- plus get some serious help -- in order to reach the playoffs.
That's a daunting task, considering the Cowboys haven't won more than two games in a row this season and are 1-8 when Tony Romo doesn't start at quarterback. Dallas is sticking with Matt Cassel under center, but his anemic numbers -- just one touchdown in the last three games -- don't inspire much confidence against the Jets' strong defense.
