For the vast majority of the NFL, the preseason is comprised of four preseason games. However, two teams end up playing a fifth preseason game a week before the rest of the league during the weekend the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrines its latest class. For this year's Hall of Fame Game, the honor of kicking off the preseason goes to Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Steelers and Vikings to play in 2015 Hall of Fame Game
The former teams of Hall of Fame inductees Jerome Bettis and Mick Tingelhoff will open the 2015 preseason.

Hall of Fame Game participants are chosen based on the players, coaches and contributors chosen for enshrinement that year. In this case, the Steelers and Vikings were picked because of the selections of Jerome Bettis and Mick Tingelhoff. Bettis played most of his career in Pittsburgh, helping secure a Lombardi Trophy during his final season in 2005. Tingelhoff was chosen by the seniors committee. He played in 240 games with Minnesota from 1962-78.
This year, the Hall of Fame Game will take place on Aug. 9. The rest of the teams open their preseason the following week.
