NFL won’t let Adidas give away Porsches at the Combine

Turns out the sports car company will not be giving away cars with giant cheetahs on them at the NFL Combine this week.

Today is a sad day for you in the event that you are a fast football player who loves Adidas and sports cars with giant cheetahs on them. Adidas was planning to run a promotion at the 2015 NFL Combine in which the three fastest players in the 40-yard dash -- wearing Adidas cleats, of course -- would win Porsche 911 Carrera cars.

However, the promo has been scrapped, according to Tony Pauline of Draft Insider.

Instead of a new Porsche, the three fastest players will receive $100,000, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN. That’s enough to buy a Porsche on their own. Or get something else. You know, without a giant cheetah on it. Each of the three cars for this year’s promotion were worth approximately $83,000. The proposed cheetah print represents Adidas’ new Uncaged adizero 5-star cleat, which also has a cheetah on them.

Rovell states the promotion was cancelled because it conflicts with the NFL’s standing sponsorship with General Motors.

Last year, Adidas was also involved in the 40-yard dash, offering an $100,000 prize for the fastest time by a player running in the company's cleats. The cash was won by Brandin Cooks of Oregon State, who was drafted in the first round by the New Orleans Saints before signing with Nike.
