NFL football operations chief Troy Vincent confirmed that Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson notified the league about the New England Patriots potentially deflating footballs in the AFC Championship, according to ESPN. Vincent discussed the topic during an interview with 60 Minutes Sports that will air Tuesday on Showtime.

The Colts reportedly realized there was a problem with the footballs when D'Qwell Jackson intercepted Tom Brady in the second quarter and brought the ball over to the sideline. From there, a member of the Colts' equipment staff informed head coach Chuck Pagano there was an issue with the ball, and Pagano then sent a message to Grigson. Grigson then contacted the league.
During halftime, the 12 Patriots footballs were checked for the correct air pressure, and it was determined that 11 of them were underinflated, according to a report. The balls were replaced before the first offensive series of the second half, and New England went on to outscore Indianapolis in the final two quarters, 28-0.

The NFL has stated there is evidence supporting the notion that New England had involvement in the footballs being deflated. Currently, the league has lawyer Ted Wells and NFL executive vice president Jeff Pash leading the way on the investigation.
No timetable has been established for when the issue could be resolved. Vincent stated Jan. 20 that the investigation would be closed in “two or three days.”
