Wide receiver Torrey Smith has signed a five-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Smith was highly coveted on the market because of his ability to stretch the field, a trait he has consistently displayed since coming out of Maryland as a second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Smith has brought his deep-ball talent to the 49ers after playing his first four seasons in Baltimore.


Smith played his first four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, notching 3,591 yards and 30 touchdowns while winning a Super Bowl ring. Smith enjoyed a career-high 1,128 yards in 2013 before amassing 11 touchdowns in 2014. Over the past two years, he's had 232 targets from Joe Flacco. Smith has also produced in the postseason, registering four touchdowns and 414 yards in eight career games. He'll now pair up with Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco. Smith will also join his former wide receiver running mate Anquan Boldin with the 49ers. The two played together in Baltimore when the Ravens won the Super Bowl.
At 26 years old, Smith is entering the prime of his career. Baltimore was unable to retain Smith due to being up against the salary cap, allowing him to walk into a loaded market which includes Jeremy Maclin, Randall Cobb, Michael Crabtree and Cecil Shorts III.
