DeMarco Murray rumors: Eagles, Cowboys, Raiders among interested teams

DeMarco Murray is one of the few big names left in free agency. The running back, who led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,845 yards, is believed to be in play for multiple teams.

One club that doesn't appear likely to sign Murray is his former employer, the Dallas Cowboys. Murray removed all mention of the team from his Twitter account overnight between Monday and Tuesday. Yahoo! Sports' Charles Robinson reported that while Murray would relish a return to Dallas, he wouldn't do so for the amount the team has offered.

Meanwhile, the NFC East-rival Philadelphia Eagles have interest now that Frank Gore has officially spurned them for the Indianapolis Colts. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Murray contacted head coach Chip Kelly about making the union a reality. The running back makes a lot of sense for Philadelphia, as he played his college ball in an up-tempo spread system not too dissimilar from the offense Kelly runs. Additionally, Murray's college quarterback was Sam Bradford, the player the Eagles traded Nick Foles and draft pick consideration to acquire on Tuesday.

Another possible landing spot for Murray is the Oakland Raiders. The team struck out with most of the top players on the market despite possessing the most salary cap space in the league entering free agency. Murray would give the Raiders a proven bell cow back to replace the departed Darren McFadden. While Oakland is far away from contention, they likely have the biggest offer on the table, as they have to spend significant money in order to reach the CBA-mandated salary cap floor.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are also reportedly in the hunt for Murray, but they appear to be a distant third. According to reports, the team's offer isn't believed to be as lucrative as the others' nor is that expected to change. Like Oakland, the Jaguars entered free agency needing to reach the cap floor, but they have already signed former Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas to a five-year, $46 million contract.
