Cowboys sign Darren McFadden to 2-year deal, per report

After losing DeMarco Murray, the Cowboys signed a veteran running back with a history of injuries.

The Dallas Cowboys have signed running back Darren McFadden to a two-year deal pending a physical, according to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Terms of the contract have not been disclosed. McFadden spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Oakland Raiders, amassing 4,247 rushing yards.

McFadden will replace DeMarco Murray, who left the Cowboys via free agency to join the Philadelphia Eagles on a five-year deal. The former University of Arkansas star has endured all kinds of injury problems, limiting him to 13 games or less in every season but 2014, when his touches were minimal. McFadden totaled 155 carries for 534 yards, averaging 3.4 yards per carry, last season.

McFadden’s best year was 2010 when he rushed for 1,157 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 contests. He is also a capable receiver out of the backfield, registering 211 catches for 1,769 yards throughout his career.

McFadden will earn playing time along with second-year back Joseph Randle, who backed up Murray as a rookie. Randle, a fifth-round pick from Oklahoma State, looked promising in 51 carries in 2014, racking up 343 yards (6.7 YPC) and three touchdowns.
