DeAngelo Williams signs with Steelers

The veteran tailback will back up Le’Veon Bell in Pittsburgh.

After nine seasons in Charlotte, DeAngelo Williams received his release from the Carolina Panthers. Now he'll begin his second chapter with the Pittsburgh Steelers who signed the veteran running back Friday, according to Adam Schefter.

The Steelers possessed one of the league's better ground games last season, but after LeGarrette Blount pushed his way off the team and Le'Veon Bell went down with a knee injury the offense fell apart. Adding Williams could prevent such a scenario in 2015.

Williams comes off the worst season of his NFL career, rushing for just 219 yards on 62 carries. He missed significant time with injuries to his thigh, ankle and hand. However, for the most part in Williams career he has played through injuries. 2010 was the only other season in which he did not play in at least 13 games.

The former Panther has accrued 6,846 yards and 46 touchdowns on the ground over the course of his career, adding another 1,621 and seven respectively as a pass catcher.
