Good morning from Phoenix. The NFC head coaches are sitting down for breakfast with a room full of hungry reporters (hungry for scoops! GET IT?) on Wednesday morning. We’ll have coverage of that, too. In the meantime, here are some delicious leftovers from Tuesday’s breakfast with the AFC coaches.
Rise ‘n Grind: Dolphins want more from Ryan Tannehill
The status of Miami’s young quarterback, the Ravens’ free agent needs, pass rushers in Cleveland and more leftovers from Tuesday’s session with the AFC coaches.

THIRD TIME’S A CHARM: The Raiders think Trent Richardson just needs a fresh start (for reference, they thought the same thing about Matt Schaub last year). Oakland’s new head coach Jack Del Rio didn’t spare any classic coach speak cliches talking about his new running back on Tuesday morning. For instance, he’s a “tenacious worker” who is going to “grind everyday” because he’s “hungry.”
Richardson is part of Oakland’s plan to run the ball more, something that Del Rio believes will take pressure off second-year quarterback Derek Carr, furthering his development by “not making it all about” him.
RAVENS STILL LOOKING: John Harbaugh said Tuesday that they still had their eyes on the free agent market, combing the leftover bin for receivers in particular. But ...
“It’s got to fit as far as the player, the personality, the talent obviously, a fit for our offense, and of course the financial part of it,” he clarified.
THICK RED LINE: Andy Reid was feeling, overall, positive about the Chiefs’ offensive line this year. Donald Stephenson is starting at right tackle, “right now,” and Eric Fisher finally has a healthy offseason to lift and workout.
TANNEHILL ON TRACK: Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin spent a little time talking about Ryan Tannehill. Overall, he believes that Tannehill “is where he needs to be,” in terms of his development.
Philbin pointed to three things that are telltale signs of a signal caller’s progress: “Decision-making, accuracy and playmaking ability at critical times.
“His decision-making has gotten better every year. His completion rate was the highest it’s been so far (66.4 percent). We’re going to continue to find ways to generate more explosive passes. That’s the one area where we want to get better.”
The addition of Kenny Stills should help with that last thing, Philbin believes. One reason the Dolphins were attracted to Stills in the first place was his ability to run the routes that mesh with what they want Tannehill and the offense to do.
MORE MINGO IN CLEVELAND: Mike Pettine took a break from answering questions about Johnny Manziel to say that the Browns would “potentially address” the need for more outside pass rushing help in the draft this year. Some of that help is expected to come from a healthy Barkevious Mingo, the sixth overall pick in 2013, who will be back in the SAM linebacker position.
General manager Ray Farmer also talked to the media, covering a range of subjects, including a certain quarterback that he thinks we all might be sleeping on this year (hint: It’s not Johnny).
