Rise ‘n Grind: The NFL is talkin’ ‘bout the Noles

Get ready, #FSUTwitter, Tuesday’s the day you get to formally introduce yourself to the NFL world.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

TALKIN’ BOUT THE NOLES: Florida State is having its pro day on Tuesday, starting at 11:45 a.m. ET. Jameis Winston is the star of the show, but this is a loaded group of NFL talent. Naturally, it will be televised. Tomahawk Nation has a full preview.

CITY OF CHAMPIONSHIPS: Super Bowls in cold weather cities aren’t exactly new, so it’s no surprise that Pittsburgh Steelers chairman and owner Dan Rooney wants the big game in the Steel City. The biggest hurdles are the number of available hotel rooms there within proximity to Heinz Field and the number of seats -- ~67,000 -- in the stadium.

BASKETBALL JONES: General managers are spending more and more of their time going to college basketball games, but it’s got nothing to do with their brackets.

KEEP DREAMING: What’s the most famous quarterback trade: Elway? Manning/Rivers? There have actually been quite a few more notable quarterback trades than it seems, given how rare player trades have been in the NFL. Bills fans longing to see someone besides Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel under center look back at the history of quarterback swaps. Without another trade, the Bills are said to be interested in Colorado State QB Garrett Grayson.

FROM THE STAND: Who better to give us an update on the Aaron Hernandez trial than PFT Commenter?

BARGAIN BIN RECEIVERS: It goes against the current thinking to value running backs over receivers in the NFL, but Chip Kelly’s not exactly wedded to convention. Adding Miles Austin looks like a low-risk depth move for the Eagles that could end up paying off.

IRSAYS: Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted a response (of course) to Indiana’s so-called Religious Freedom Act. It’s going to take a little more than tweets from Irsay for the NFL to take a stand. For now, the league is keeping an eye on the situation there with just less than a year until the next Combine. Big-time sports businesses, like the NCAA and the NFL, are powerful enough to force some changes.

GET WHAT YOU WANT: Did your team get the player you want in Monday’s mock draft? Frankly, I’m relieved to see Marcus Mariota back in the second spot for the Titans. Jeff Fisher isn’t coaching that team anymore; do the right thing, Titans.

GET TOUGH: A meaner, nastier Falcons was the theme of last season’s Hard Knocks. Not surprisingly, it was the most boring season of the series so far. This year, the Falcons’ defense is just looking for an “attitude adjustment.

BIG, BUT NOT THAT BIG: NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the Seahawks want to get Russell Wilson’s contract extension done before training camp starts this summer. Talks have yet to begin, and it is not expected to be a fully guaranteed deal.

SOME TONGUE: Jimmy Clausen’s wedding video is a thing to watch, if only because his little scheme for the post-ceremony kiss gets shut down.

TAKE THIS GLOVE AND SHOVE IT: It’s still kind of shocking how little we’re talking about Teddy Bridgewater’s rookie season, especially after Mike Mayock made a national sport of abusing the kid in last year’s run-up to the draft. Pro Football Focus has a look at the numbers for QBs under pressure, and guess who’s still on top with a stunning 75 percent accuracy rate when pressured?
