Rise ‘n Grind: Jameis Winston’s smile problem

You know who else had a smile? That’s right, JaMarcus Russell.

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

THAT SMILE: Anonymous NFL sources have been awfully quiet ... until now. One of America’s favorite unidentified draft experts told Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Jameis Winston reminds them of JaMarcus Russell. “He’s got that same smile,” said one scout. Smile analysis has advanced a long way since anonymous scouts were writing off Cam Newton in 2011.

LONDON AGAIN: While all eyes are on the race to Los Angeles, there’s NFL talk happening in the UK. Tottenham is hoping to land an NFL team to share a new soccer stadium with in the near future.

TITAN SHIFT: Okay, so now the Titans beat writer is saying not to be surprised if the team does decide to draft Marcus Mariota. Their stance has apparently changed. Are the Titans making rational football decisions or is this just something to drum up trade interest? It’s supposedly a three-team deal for Mariota now, by the way.

GIMME THREE STEPS: The Eagles have a three-part plan for the draft. Let’s see, first, pick players ... no, it’s more than just that.

PRESENTATION DAY: The nation’s various stadium projects, all in various states of possibility, were presented to the NFL this week. The joint effort from the Chargers and Raiders in Carson, Calif. stole the show, though. It has lightning.

UNTOUCHABLE: Jeff Fisher can never be fired. No, seriously. He’s considered one of a handful of coaches that can be mediocre as all hell and still not get the boot. Can’t argue with success!

FIVE YEARS: The Titans are expected to pick up the fifth-year option for receiver Kendall Wright, who you probably don’t remember because he plays in Tennessee.

HAPPY FACE: Who better to announce the Bills’ second-round pick than a healthy Jim Kelly? Nobody.

BOOTSTRAPS: The draft is full of stories about players overcoming tough circumstances. But nobody’s overcome more in their personal life than TCU offensive tackle Tayo Fabuluje. Great story by Louis Bien here.

THE NEXT BIG DT THING: The next Michael Bennett isn’t Michael Bennett, it’s Xavier Cooper, a defensive lineman from Washington State. Danny Kelly sat down with the big man to talk about his NFL future.

NEW PODCAST: All of your pressing draft questions answered! Stephen White, Danny Kelly and myself talked about all kinds of players, good and bad, on the latest podcast, including a running back in the draft who reminds us a little of a certain Bo Jackson. Plus, PFT Commenter’s cure for head trauma.
