TRADE TALK BEGINS: This are going to get really weird with the draft just one day away. We’re going to be swimming in trade rumors, most of them being some bogus nugget put out there by general managers, agents and others angling for whatever advantage it might bring. Sometimes, it’s more straight forward, like when Rick Speilman, the Vikings GM, says he’s looking forward to trading out of the 11th pick.
Rise ‘n Grind: The NFL rumor mill is spinning out of control
It’s the day before the draft and that means things are about to get really wild.
RUMOR TRACKER: We’re keeping track of the rumors, the ones from good sources anyway, with our draft rumor tracker. Bookmark it.
SAFETY MARKET: Another trade to keep an eye on is Texans safety D.J. Swearinger. He’s not exactly one of the best safeties in the league right now, but there’s such a drought at the position, a team in need could take a chance with the hopes that a veteran safety can at least bridge the gap.
THE DREAM: Just because it’s been at least 24 hours since we’ve all heard a good Mariota-Eagles trade rumor doesn’t mean we should just give up on the idea.
NOT THE END: This might not be the last year for Peyton Manning after all. Now I’m wondering if he’s going to break Brett Favre’s record for elaborate retirement dances every offseason.
WOULDN’T IT BE NICE: Adrian Peterson said “it would be nice” to play for the Dallas Cowboys, the same day that the Vikings general manager said that they weren’t trading him. We’ll see what comes to pass, but the Cowboys seem too rational now to make those kind of moves.
NO GUARANTEES: Gil Brandt said on the radio this week that Oregon’s Arik Armstead is not going to the draft because his dad wanted a guarantee that he’d get picked in the first round. Obviously, teams don’t hand out promises like that; they can’t.
VOLUNTARY: Matt Forte wants you to know that it’s not a big deal he’s skipping the Bears voluntary workouts. They’re voluntary, duh, and he’s working out on his own pace right now anyway.
GET READY: Tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET. Are you ready for the draft? Either way, it wouldn’t hurt to brush up, and our draft preview has just what you’re looking for.
