The Titans were rumored to have numerous teams interested in trading up for the second overall pick, but the decision was made to bring in Mariota as their quarterback of the future.
Mariota has always been a standout athlete, dominating both track and field and football through high school. He was a force in the Pac-12, earning numerous accolades and leading the Ducks past Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles in a decisive Rose Bowl victory.
Super Mariota, as he became known, was a star in his final collegiate year. He racked up over 4,000 passing yards and was a dual-threat quarterback for Oregon. Mariota rushed and passed for a combined 57 touchdowns, lighting up the scoreboard one highlight at a time.
