NFL Draft picks 2015: Mario Edwards Jr. goes to Raiders at No. 35
Mario Edwards Jr. goes to the Raiders at the top end of the second round.

A stout interior defensive lineman, Edwards became a fixture along the Florida State defensive line in 2012. After Tank Carradine went down with a knee injury, Edwards became the first true freshman to start a game for the Seminoles on defense. A year later, he stepped into the role full time.
Edwards specializes as a run defender. His strength allows him to anchor at the point of attack and push through multiple blockers. He also has the burst to develop more as a pass rusher. Additionally, Edwards is viewed as scheme flexible. He can line up as an end in 3-4 alignments and play defensive tackle in 4-3 defenses.
But the pass rush issue is the biggest drawback to Edwards as a prospect. While he put up decent numbers at Florida State — eight sacks over his career — his lack of elite explosiveness will likely prove an impediment at the next level. As such, he may be only a one-dimensional player as a pro.
Edwards’ combine results were middle of the range for his position. He ran a 4.84 second 40-yard dash to go with his 7.44 second 3-cone drill. His jumps were better, though, with the defensive lineman registering a 32.5-inch vertical leap along with a 120-inch broad jump, the latter of which was among the best for his position group.
Edwards finished his college career with 89 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks, seven batted passes and three forced fumbles. He also earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2014.
