GRADE CARD: The Broncos made a very un-Patriots move when they jumped up two spots in the first round, and traded away two more draft picks, to get Shane Ray. Denver got the lowest grade from Mocking the Draft. A handful of teams earned an A, including the Browns, for their picks. As for Ray, John Elway explained that decision.

Everything you need to know about the first round and what’s going to happen next.

SLIDERS: Randy Gregory fell out of the first round. We knew it was possible, even if some of us did sort of expect at least one team to take a chance on the Nebraska pass rusher as he slipped into the late first round. Here’s the full list of the best players available. Gregory slid to the Jets at No. 37 in Dan Kadar’s mock draft for round two.
THE TRADE THAT WASN’T: Nothing ever came out of the Marcus Mariota-Eagles trade rumors. The Titans reportedly never got an offer they liked enough to make the deal, and Chip Kelly claims he never put any of his veteran players on the table to sweeten the pot.
BEING REPLACED: Zac Stacy, the St. Louis Rams former starting running back, deleted his famous “yikes” tweet, a reaction to the team drafting Todd Gurley with the 10th pick. He asked for a trade though.
JONES ON JONES: The Cowboys once again be applauded for their patience. No deals for Adrian Peterson, and they made a sensible pick, taking Connecticut cornerback Byron Jones, which is drawing great reviews. Jerry Jones saved all of the weirdness for this draft party.
THAT WINNING SMILE: It’s a good thing Jameis Winston wasn’t in Chicago when the Bucs made him the first overall pick because he couldn’t have done this.
BEST AVAILABLE: The Colts got panned by some for drafting Miami receiver Phillip Dorsett, but they say he was the highest rated player left on their board when it was their turn to pick.
MORE DEALS: It was a slow night for trades, but the second round could have more deals. We reported Thursday that teams were expected to be active among the top 50 picks thanks to a shallow draft class.
