Rise ‘n Grind: Johnny Manziel mania returns

Drake’s best pal is back and ready to ball.

HERE’S JOHNNY: Fresh out of rehab and ready to resume his NFL career, Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel will take to the practice field next Tuesday for OTAs. He’s the No. 2 QB at the moment, but just how long will it take Mike Pettine to get a text message telling him Josh McCown isn’t very good? On the other hand, we still don’t know if Johnny’s going to be very good, either.

SOMEONE TALKED: Former Patriots corner Darrelle Revis shared his thoughts on DeflateGate.

BUSTED: Oh, hey, another NFL suspension. This time Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus got hit with a one-game suspension for a substance abuse violation, stemming from a 2014 incident. The Bills play the Colts in the season opener, so they’ll feel his loss. He will be back for Week 2, a game against the Tom Brady-less (probably) Patriots.

THE NEXT GREAT LINEBACKER: Lavonte David’s size had people writing him off from before his college football career even started. A failed conditioning test at the JuCo program he went to almost derailed it, but things worked out really well in the end. The question is, how did this guy get so good?

STADIUM SCARE: Is someone from Inglewood trying to slow the Carson stadium project? There's something fishy going on there. That wasn't the only stadium rumble coming out of Southern California on Thursday. A reporter from KTLA said on-air that a source told him the St. Louis Rams would announce a move to L.A. in August, and the Inglewood mayor told him that "he had good sources." However, that report was quickly shot down by any number of NFL insiders. The Rams can barely hide their plans about a move, but the league would most certainly never allow them to announce that in August, with a full season left to play. Tickets are hard enough to sell in St. Louis.

GRUDEN RUMORS RETURN: Now that Ken Whisenhunt and Marcus Mariota are paired up in Tennessee, how will the coach work the prized rookie into his offensive system? If it doesn’t work out, the Jon Gruden coaching rumors are already heating up ... months ahead of schedule.

ANTONIO SMITH ALLEGATIONS: Child abuse allegations that are said to be “sexual in nature” involving Broncos linebacker Antonio Smith surfaced on Thursday. No charges have been made yet as Texas law enforcement looks into the situation.

STABILITY IN DALLAS: Things with the Cowboys are relatively quiet, stable even. That’s a positive.

RED NOSES: Why is Eagles QB Sam Bradford’s nose so red?

NICE THREADS: How can the Steelers have the best uniforms in the NFL, according to some, when they wear those horrible bee costumes for their third jersey?

RAY RICE: The former Ravens running back completed his pretrial intervention, and the domestic abuse charge was dropped.

SHAKE UP: Could this be the year the Chiefs finally unseat the Broncos in the AFC West?
