For the last two years, cornerback Byron Maxwell helped the Seattle Seahawks win the NFC and reach the Super Bowl. Now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, he sees his streak continuing. In an interview with the MMQB's Jenny Vrentas, Maxwell discussed why his new team targeting him in free agency this offseason and guaranteed that the Eagles would make an appearance in Super Bowl 50.
Byron Maxwell guarantees that the Eagles will make Super Bowl 50
The cornerback played in the Super Bowl the last two years and plans on making it three in a row.

Back in March, Philadelphia signed Maxwell to a six-year, $63 million contract that includes $22 million in fully guaranteed cash. A deal of that size creates immediate expectations of success, and the cornerback did not shy away from the pressure.
“I don’t really care what people say. But do I have things to prove? Yeah,” Maxwell said, adding that proving the doubters wrong has been a part of his mantra since being benched as a college player.
“I always feel like I’ve got a chip on my shoulder. I was taken in the sixth round. I feel like I was way better than that. They benched me at Clemson. So I’ve got a lot to prove even though I got this contract.”
Maxwell says his veteran know-how and playoff history make the Super Bowl a lock for the Eagles.
“[I bring] experience [to the secondary],” he said. “Because I’ve been there before. Knowing what it’s like if we go that far. Because we’re gonna go that far this year -- meaning the playoffs and the Super Bowl. We’re gonna go that far. Hopefully that experience I already had, I can help them.”
When Vrentas followed up asking if the corner was indeed guaranteeing a Super Bowl trip, Maxwell confirmed. “You can take that as a guarantee,” the cornerback said. “That’s just me believing in my team and the product we’re going to put out there on the field. I really do believe that. I have no choice but to think that way.”
