Dante Fowler out for the season after suffering torn ACL

The No. 3 overall pick went down during 11-on-11 drills and had to be carted off the field. The Jaguars confirmed that Fowler suffered a torn ACL.

Dante Fowler Jr. is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL during Jacksonville Jaguars rookie minicamp, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Just over a week ago, the Jaguars made Fowler the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars confirmed the injury, and said that Fowler is expected to miss the 2015 season.

The injury occurred during the 11-on-11 segment of the minicamp practice, Fowler’s first with the team. The Jacksonville rookies were not in pads per CBA rules. Fowler went down during a play and immediately began clutching his knee. Two Jaguars trainers assisted the defensive end on the field before carting him off to the team’s medical tent. He remained there for an extended period of time.

Fowler’s injury is a tremendous loss for the Jaguars. Rookies need as many reps as possible to help get acclimated to the NFL, and the team expected Fowler to factor into its defense early in 2015.

A video of the injury surfaced on Twitter.
