Rise ‘n Grind: Are Adrian Peterson and the Vikings friends again?

Guess who decided to show up in Minnesota?

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

HE’S BACK: Guess who showed up at the Vikings OTAs this week? Yep, Adrian Peterson is back, without the guaranteed contract he, um, mentioned on Twitter last week. In fact, the Vikings haven’t said a word to him about doing anything with his current contract, which runs for another three years -- albeit without much in the way of guaranteed money.

COMPLETE PICTURE: With second-year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater finding his groove, Peterson’s return could give the Vikings a very potent offense.

BUT HIS SMILE: Cam Newton is getting a new contract, one that he could sign at any minute. It’s a deal said to be worth $100 million and keep him with the team through 2020. The devil’s in the details on any NFL contract extension, so stay tuned.

HAMMY: Don’t worry. Odell Beckham says his hamstring injury is going to be fine.

FAMOUS NUMBERS: Steelers receiver Antonio Brown can put himself in rarified air with another big season in 2015, accumulating the kind of numbers only the game’s greatest receivers have posted.

SEW WHAT: 49ers wide receiver Jerome Simpson is a man of many talents, and that includes sewing.

BAD SPORTS TOWN: Are the Bears the worst-run sports team in the city of Chicago?

GRONKING: The summer of Gronk never ends; it just pauses for the season. Anyway, here’s a little something to watch with our top five Gronk things ever.

NO END IN SIGHT: The Texans’ QB battle will go on as long as it needs to ... right through the entire Hard Knocks season at any rate.

FAMILIAR PRESENCE: Chargers running back Melvin Gordon, the team’s first-round pick this year, reminds Philip Rivers of another running back he’s seen before, a very good one.
