Rise ‘n Grind: Tony Romo isn’t worried about Dez Bryant or anything else

The Cowboys starting quarterback is also Mr. Optimism. Plus, some important safety reminders about fireworks and those unsigned $14.8 million franchise offers.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

ROMO BELIEVES: Tony Romo isn't worried at all about Dez Bryant's contract situation. He's also not giving up on his fantasy football thing, but he will move it to Los Angeles instead of Las Vegas.

FIREWORKS SAFETY REMINDER: It was a great weekend for celebrating America, from the World Cup win to the Fourth of July. Unfortunately, Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul celebrated a little too much, with a van full of fireworks and a burned up hand. He’s lucky he won’t lose any fingers. Now there’s the question of his $14.8 million franchise tender the Giants extended to him, which he hasn’t signed yet. It seems unlikely that they’d pull it, but they could.

SHOTS FIRED: JPP wasn’t the only Florida man from the NFL who had a run-in with gunpowder this weekend. Packers tight end Andrew Quarless fired off two shots from a .45 in the parking lot of a Miami club, and is now facing firearms charges.

ELITE DEBATE: Are the Patriots elite? They are the reigning Super Bowl champs, but we’ll see exactly how “elite” they really are with Tom Brady suspended for four games.

PHILADELPHIA OKIE: Chip Kelly is turning the Eagles into a little slice of Oklahoma. Newly signed guard John Moffitt is not from Oklahoma, but he could still be a vital part of the offense this season.

QUESTIONABLE DECISION: The cult of Ron Wolf has lots of sway in the NFL world, from draft fanboys to front offices. But the legendary personnel guru gave the Browns some costly advice that the team is still paying for.

BIG BUCKS: Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have yet to agree on a new contract that would actually pay him fair market value, but he’s making waaaaaaay more than the average NFL player did ... in 1991.

WHO IS THIS GUY: Ryan Kerrigan is the most important man on Washington’s defense.

THAT’S DEDICATION: You already knew that James Harrison is a vital part of the Steelers defense, but did you know that he’s also an important part of the grounds crew?
