PRESEASON FUN: There were two preseason games last night, featuring quarterback battles, running back battles, soul-crushing injuries and lots more. Here’s everything you need to know from last night’s games.
Robert Griffin III will still be Washington’s starting quarterback whenever he returns
Jay Gruden wasn’t making any hasty decisions in the wake of last night’s injury to RG3. Plus, Johnny Manziel’s effective night, the Bills’ QB battle, another impressive Lions running back and lots more.

RG3 INJURY: Griffin has a concussion and a shoulder stinger. Jay Gruden doesn’t know when RG3 will be able to play again. Gruden added that he expects RG3 to remain the starter once he returns.
THE FATE OF WASHINGTON QBS: He got sacked three times and hit on six of his eight dropbacks, mostly because of terrible offensive line play (left tackle Trent Williams was not playing). Gruden should’ve pulled him out sooner than he did, given the circumstances in a meaningless game. However, any quarterback is going to get hammered playing behind that line.
LOWLIGHT: It was only fitting that the first half of the Washington-Detroit game ended this way.
RUNNING LIONS: Another unheralded Lions running back stole the spotlight this week, Zach Zenner. He had 81 yards from scrimmage on nine offensive touches.
MCCOWN STILL AHEAD OF MANZIEL: Josh McCown played the entire first half for the Browns, but struggled against the Bills pass rush. Johnn Manziel had a decent night, including a few highlight-reel plays, but head coach Mike Pettine made it clear that McCown was still the starter.
RUNNING BACK BATTLE: Cleveland featured plenty of both Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell. Both played well but neither one did enough to claim a true No. 1 role.
TAYLOR STRONG FOR BILLS: The Bills quarterback battle rages on following Thursday night’s game. Tyrod Taylor got the start against the Browns and proved to be the lone bright spot for less than impressive Bills offense. EJ Manuel wasn’t bad either, FWIW.
INJURY REPORT: Detroit’s starting left guard Larry Warford and defensive tackle Caraun Reid both suffered ankle injuries. LB Kevin Synder and TE Jordan Thompson also left with injuries. In addition to RG3, Washington also lost linebacker Adam Hayward, who tore his ACL. McCown injured his finger.

THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN NOT IN FOOTBALL: In a must-read profile with ESPN, former 49ers linebacker Chris Borland opened up about the dangers of the game and why he doesn’t trust the NFL.
$90 MILLION MAN: Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus engaged in some public contract negotiations on Friday, telling the press, “I feel like they don’t really want me here.” He reportedly turned down a six-year extension worth $90 million. Guess what kind of deal he’s looking for?
DEFLATEGATE TALKS: The NFL said no to Judge Berman’s request to bring Giants co-owner John Mara into DeflateGate settlement talks. Mara recently said that he too was sick of DeflateGate and that owners were not pressuring Goodell to hold firm on Brady’s punishment.
SORRY, PATRIOTS: Watch ESPN apologize to the Patriots.
GUARD’S LIFE: What’s it like to play on the inside, that is from the lineman’s point of view?
FREE AGENT NEWS: Unemployed guard Evan Mathis is scheduled to visit the Seattle Seahawks, who desperately need blocking help ... unless he gets another offer before the plane lands.
STICK AROUND: Are the Eagles going to keep Tim Tebow on the active roster? They just might.
