49ers running back Jarryd Hayne is the NFL preseason MVP

It’s hard not to get excited about the 49ers’ Australian import. Plus, all the costly injuries from this weekend’s meaningless preseason games, Cris Carter’s fall guy and more!

HOUSE OF HAYNE: Jared Hayne, the 49ers’ Australian import had a huge game against the Cowboys last night: just watch the running back’s highlight reel. The Hayne hype train has left the station.

FALL GUY: Cris Carter gave rookies some advice and the NFL is NOT happy about what he said.

MARIOTA’S NIGHT: The Titans rookie quarterback had a much better outing this week.

SHEEPISH: The Rams look really bad. Even the first-team defense is having its issues in the preseason.

FAT GUY TOUCHDOWN: 49ers defensive tackle Mike Purcell had the first fat guy touchdown of the season.

DALLAS DEFENSE: The Cowboys’ defensive line had some nice plays last night against the 49ers, but for the most part the Cowboys will be anxious to forget this preseason.

COSTLY GAME: The Steelers beat the Packers, but the meaningless win will have far-reaching repercussions for both teams because of costly injuries. The Packers lost Jody Nelson to what’s believed to be an ACL tear. Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey hurt his left ankle and needs surgery.

BAD BACKUPS: The Packers’ offense still has Aaron Rodgers, but the backup quarterbacks didn’t do much to impress.

MIXED RECEIVER RESULTS: Markus Wheaton looks like a guy poised for a big year for the Steelers. Rookie Sammie Coates struggled with drops.

WAYNE VISITS PATRIOTS: The Patriots are getting an early start on needling the Colts, bringing free agent wide receiver Reggie Wayne in for a visit this weekend.

MATHIS VISITS SEATTLE: The free agent lineman made a trip to Seattle this weekend for a visit with the Seahawks. So what’s the deal?

RG3 COMING BACK: The guy who wants to be the league’s best quarterback was practicing again this weekend. It looks like RG3 will get another shot behind that terrible offensive line next week.

BAD HIT ON BRADFORD: Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs went low on Sam Bradford, watch the hit here. The Eagles aren’t happy about it. At least one Eagles player thinks Suggs actually planned it.

NO MILK IN PHILLY: Chip Kelly says that the Eagles’ secondary is “lactose intolerant.

JIMMY CAN DO IT: Pats Pulpit grinds the tape on backup Jimmy Garoppolo and likes what they see.

ROUGH NIGHT FOR ELI: It is just the preseason, which is good news for Eli Manning, who had a rough game this weekend.

SURGERY FOR WHITE: Falcons receiver Roddy White is having surgery.

NO ANSWERS AT QB: The Texans are no closer to answering their QB question than they were last week.
