Washington head coach Jay Gruden drew plenty of criticism for leaving his quarterback in the line of fire against the Detroit Lions in the team's second preseason game, and Robert Griffin III won't be able to play in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Baltimore Ravens due to a concussion. Griffin was originally cleared to play on Thursday, but the neurologist reversed his decision and said Griffin needed more time out.
Washington vs. Ravens 2015 live stream: Start time, TV schedule and how to watch online
Joe Flacco hasn’t had the smoothest preseason so far, but will look to get things on track on Saturday night. Robert Griffin III won’t be in action for Washington, and Kirk Cousins will try to take advantage of the opportunity.

That means Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy will primarily be under center -- and under fire -- on Saturday.
The Ravens were a dominant pass-rushing team in 2014, finishing with 49 sacks, the second-most in the NFL. The duo of Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs combined for 39 sacks alone, but through two preseason games, Suggs hasn't yet recorded a sack and Dumervil has just one of the team's only three sacks. But if any team could help the Baltimore defense get back on track, it's Washington.
Griffin was hit six of the eight times he dropped back to pass against the Lions, absorbing several big hits before finally leaving the game with a concussion and shoulder stinger on his fourth drive of the game. It was originally considered a minor concussion and he quickly returned to practice. He seemed ready to go before the decision to not clear him came through on Friday. Griffin is the team’s starter, but Cousins and McCoy have both played well throughout the preseason.
Despite the struggles of the Washington offensive line, the team is 2-0 through the first two weeks of preseason, thanks to a pair of second-half comebacks and a strong run defense. The O-line will be helped by the expected return of Trent Williams, the team's three-time Pro Bowl left tackle who should help out plenty with the protection of Cousins and McCoy. Rookie Brandon Scherff, though, is still a question mark on the interior.
The Ravens enter with a 1-1 record and some inconsistencies to correct in the final dress rehearsal for starters before dialing back playing time in the last week of preseason. Joe Flacco followed up a 5-of-6 performance against the New Orleans Saints with three completions and two interceptions against the Philadelphia Eagles on seven pass attempts. Flacco needs to start finding a rhythm with receivers Steve Smith and Marlon Brown sooner than later.
Flacco is not the only one who needs to find rhythm on the Baltimore offense. For all the hype surrounding the Ravens' offensive line, it hasn't created much running room for rookie Javorius Allen, who has accrued praise in training camp but has just 54 yards on 17 attempts in preseason. Finding rushing yards against the stout Washington defensive line could be tough.
Through the first two weeks of preseason, questions for Baltimore and Washington revolve more around the offensive struggles for each team’s starters, meaning points could come at a premium on Saturday night. That said, both Washington quarterbacks will look to make a case against Griffin remaining the starter and both have played well to this point. Cousins in particular has looked solid and would be next in line.
