The St. Louis Rams travel to Washington in Week 2 looking to build some momentum after a statement-making win over the defending NFC champion Seahawks. Washington played the Dolphins closer than most expected last week, losing 17-10 and outgaining Miami by nearly 100 yards on offense, but the experts aren't giving them much of a chance on Sunday against the Rams.
Rams vs. Washington 2015 picks and predictions: Experts predict easy win for St. Louis
The Rams are trying to start 2-0 for the first time since 2001.
St. Louis is flying high after its stunning overtime victory against its division rival. It is trying to get off to a rare fast start as it looks to establish itself as a true playoff contender this year. It has been more than a decade since the Rams won their first two games of the season. The last time it happened was 2001, en route to a 14-2 record and a trip to the Super Bowl.
The Rams have built a reputation as one of the top defensive teams in the league, and they showed no signs of giving up that status with yet another impressive performance to start the season last week. Sure, they allowed 31 points, but they also sacked Russell Wilson six times, held Marshawn Lynch to just 73 yards and gave up just one touchdown in four red zone trips by the Seahawks.
With DeSean Jackson nursing a hamstring injury, Washington is going to have to rely even more on running back Alfred Morris and a run-heavy game plan to control the tempo of the game if they are going to pull off the upset. Morris rushed 25 times for 121 yards against the Dolphins, but it won't be easy to repeat that effort against the Rams' smothering run defense. In two career games against St. Louis, Morris has rushed for just 95 yards on 24 carries with no touchdowns.
Washington is all too familiar with how dominant the Rams’ front seven can be. St. Louis had seven sacks and two interceptions in a decisive 24-0 win over Washington in Week 14 last year. The Rams have won five of their past seven meetings with Washington.
The experts are all-in on St. Louis in this game, with everyone at CBS Sports, ESPN and SB Nation picking the Rams to win on the road at Washington. It’s a clean sweep for the Rams ... if you believe the wiseguys.
