Sammy Watkins ‘day to day’ with calf sprain

Sammy Watkins injured his calf in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins left Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins with a calf injury. Watkins walked off the field and to the locker room under his own power, but he did not return to the game.

On Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Watkins is “day to day” with a mild sprain.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Watkins had caught six passes for 60 yards and a touchdown on the year. He had one reception for 39 yards before leaving Sunday’s game. As a rookie last season, Watkins had 65 receptions for 982 yards and six touchdowns.

Although he's not expected to be out long, Watkins missing any time is a blow for the Bills. Watkins is listed as the team's top receiver next to Percy Harvin. Behind Watkins and Harvin are Robert Woods and Chris Hogan, who would both see more playing time with Watkins out of the game.

Taylor found his tight end Charles Clay early and often on Sunday, hitting him four times for 70 yards and a touchdown by the time Watkins left the game. There are receiving options there for Taylor, but Watkins is still his main guy.
