St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley's season ended early, with the rookie being inactive for the Week 17 finale against the San Francisco 49ers. Gurley is dealing with a foot injury and the Rams won't push their star running back with no playoff hopes on the line.
Todd Gurley inactive for Week 17, ending breakout rookie year early
The Rams will be sitting their star rookie running back for the season finale.

Gurley appeared to suffer the injury in last week's win over the Seattle Seahawks, although he played the entire game. He didn't practice at all this week and was listed as doubtful on the injury report. Gurley was spotted in a walking boot as late as Thursday.
The No. 10 pick in this year's NFL Draft, Gurley burst onto the scene after missing the first two games, still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered at the University of Georgia. Gurley finished his rookie year with 1,106 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He became the first Rams rusher to reach 1,000 yards since Steven Jackson in 2012. That he reached that milestone in just 13 games is all the more impressive, making him one of the favorites to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
With Gurley out, Tre Mason will get the start on Sunday. Mason ran for 765 yards as a rookie in 2014, but got lost in the shuffle due to Gurley's presence this year. Benny Cunningham will continue to serve as the change-of-pace back.
