The 2016 Pro Bowl returns to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, where it has been played every year since 1980, except in 2010 and 2015 when it was farmed out to Super Bowl cities. You’ll want to stick around for the halftime festivities, which will feature a different twist than the typical musical performance.
Pro Bowl 2016 halftime show: Hawaii high school football players to be honored
More than 1,700 athletes representing 32 schools from the island of Oahu will be paraded around Aloha Stadium at halftime of the Pro Bowl.
As part of the the league’s ongoing Super Bowl High School Honor Roll initiative -- which “recognizes schools and communities that contributed to Super Bowl history and positively impacted the game of football” -- the NFL has invited every high school football player on the island of Oahu to participate in the Pro Bowl halftime show at Aloha Stadium.
Over 1,700 athletes representing 32 schools will be paraded around the stadium at intermission in a celebration designed to resemble the opening ceremonies at the Olympics. The teenagers will be joined on the field by current and former NFL players who got their start playing football in Hawaii. One of the most popular guys in the NFL from the Big Island is Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, who will be there to walk with students from his alma mater, Saint Louis School.
Per Pro Football Reference, there are 18 current players from Hawaii playing in the league, and 99 players in total from the Big Island that have put on an NFL uniform. The most recent Hawaiian-born player to be selected to the Pro Bowl was Seattle Seahawks center Max Unger, who made the team in 2012 and 2013.
