The Titans are already getting calls about the No. 1 pick

The draft’s more than two months away, and teams are already trying to leapfrog the Browns at No. 2.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Would first-year Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson be willing to part with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft? Many around the NFL seem interested in finding out.

The Titans, coming off a 3-13 season, have plenty of holes that need addressing. One area where they do appear to be set for the foreseeable future, though, is at quarterback, where they have Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 pick from last year's draft. That means they could dangle the top pick to let some other team try to nab a quarterback like California quarterback Jared Goff.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations [with other teams about the pick] here and there. I think it is really more kind of exploratory at this point,” Robinson said Monday to the Titans’ official website. “As we get a little bit closer, a little bit more through the process with the combine and interviews and pro days, I expect there will be a few more exploratory calls, and there may not be. We’ll see.”

Robinson was hired by the Titans in January after spending 12 years in New England and two in Tampa. One of Robinson’s first orders of business -- aside from removing the interim tag from Mike Mularkey’s title -- was announcing to the league that he’d “look at any and all offers that come this way” in regards to the No. 1 pick.

The draft takes place April 28-30 in Chicago. Most mock drafts have the Titans taking either Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa or Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil if they don't swing a trade. It does seem clear that the Browns are interested in taking Goff at No. 2 and anointing him the quarterback of the future, meaning any other team interested in Goff would have to leapfrog Cleveland.
