Kirk Cousins will have a contract standoff. Do you like that?

You know this ends with a massive contract that Dan Snyder may or may not regret eventually.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

COUSINS TALKS: Kirk Cousins, Washington hit roadblock in contract talks. At least for now, Washington looks likely to apply the franchise tag to Kirk Cousins rather than agree to a long-term deal. Tagging Cousins would put his 2016 salary upwards of $20 million, fully guaranteed, giving him even more leverage in contract talks. There’s still plenty of time for Washington and Cousins to get a deal done before it turns into a tag and holdout situation. Besides, we all know this ends with Dan Snyder handing out one of the massive contracts he’s famous for.

BUSHROD RELEASED: Chicago Bears release left tackle Jermon Bushrod. Injury pushed him to the bench after three games in 2015. The move saves them $4.3 million in cap space for 2016 and leaves the Bears looking for answers at left tackle.

BELL BOUNCED: The Lions cut running back Joique Bell. Although brilliant in 2014, Bell took a step back in 2015 and lost ground to Ameer Abdullah. The switch to a power-running system didn't help his prospect in Detroit either.

REMATCH? Super Bowl 50 rematch possible for season opener. It appears to be between the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots to open the season on the road against the Denver Broncos.

HALL OF FAME GAME: Colts will play the Packers in the Hall of Fame Game. It only makes sense with Brett Favre and Marvin Harrison being inducted to the HOF that weekend. The game is scheduled for Aug. 7.

JACK LIMITED: Myles Jack not fully cleared for 2016 NFL Combine. The 2016 NFL Combine gets going next week, and one notable name will not be a full participant. UCLA linebacker Myles Jack told ESPN he will do the bench press, team interviews and the medical check, but that's it.

HOLD THE MAYO: Jerod Mayo is “Retiring a Patriot.” There’s a business side to the news too; Mayo’s retirement frees up $6.5 million in cap space.

RODGERS NSFW LINK: Aaron Rodgers inadvertently links to Garfield porn. It’s not your fault, Aaron. You probably didn’t know God’s Twitter account got hacked.

POOR GOODELL: Roger Goodell made $34 million during scandal-ridden 2014 season. ONLY $34 million???

BREES COMING BACK? Saints GM Mickey Loomis says Drew Brees will get long-term extension. The Saints want the 37-year-old QB to stick around for a while ... and reduce his $30 million cap hit this year.

MACLIN IS HOME: Jeremy Maclin says ‘the script was written for me’ in coming back to Chiefs. The Chiefs WR talked about coming back to the state of Missouri at halftime of the Mizzou basketball game.

RAWLS WITH IT: More proof that Thomas Rawls was the real deal in 2015. The Seahawks might not miss Marshawn Lynch all that much, on the field anyway.

LATEST ON PEYTON: What we know about Peyton Manning’s sexual harassment scandal. A 1996 incident from Peyton Manning’s days at the University of Tennessee is back in the headlines again. What’s new, what did we already know and where is this story going?

FIX THE NFC EAST: Five moves each NFC East team should make this offseason. Should Washington franchise Kirk Cousins? Yes. Should the Eagles walk away from DeMarco Murray? No. But those are just two of 20 points of offseason emphasis Bill Barnwell lays out.

WATT TAKES: J.J. Watt has strong breakfast opinions and is very serious about them.
