Trent Richardson looks to revive NFL career after signing with Ravens

The former No. 3 pick is returning to the NFL.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

After sitting out the entire 2015 season, Trent Richardson is returning to the NFL. The former Alabama running back has officially signed with the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced on Monday.

Richardson, who was a Heisman finalist during his final year with the Crimson Tide, was drafted No. 3 overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2012. He ran for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns as a rookie, but averaged just 3.6 yards per carry, a number which remains a career high.

He was traded to the Indianapolis Colts the following September, in exchange for a first-round pick, and totaled just 458 yards in 14 games. He was suspended for the team's AFC Championship after missing a walkthrough and was waived by Indianapolis in March 2015. The Raiders brought him into training camp but then released him prior to the season.

In 46 career games, Richardson has rushed for 2,032 and 17 touchdowns with an average of 3.3 yards per carry.

Along with starter Justin Forsett, the Ravens have running backs Lorenzo Taliaferro, Javorius Allen and Terrance West on the roster.
