Finally, a college pro day that kind of mattered for the NFL Draft

The Ole Miss pro day featured a trio of top prospects, and the results of their time with NFL teams this week might just change the way the draft plays out next month.

EVERYONE who’s someone in the NFL was at the Ole Miss pro day on Monday. The event featured workouts from top picks Laquon Treadwell, Laremy Tunsil, and Robert Nkemdiche as well as 15 other prospects. Tunsil still didn’t run a 40, which is either a sign that he’s sure in his draft stock or a red flag for teams. He did look amazing on the bench press and in position drills.

NOT SO FAST: Laquon Treadwell ran a 4.63 40-yard dash. That’s not a great time. However, there aren’t many people who think it means he’s somehow less of a prospect, so don’t expect those numbers to tank his draft stock. The tape speaks for itself; Treadwell can play.

CHARACTER QUESTIONS: Robert Nkemdiche answers character questions. There was a lot more at stake than 40 times at the Ole Miss pro day for Nkemdiche.

* * *

TRADE UP: Trading up in the NFL Draft might not be as costly as you think. The Eagles might not have to surrender everything to move up.

GETTIN’ LUCKY: Andrew Luck’s next contract will be “new landmark deal.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently said on Mike and Mike that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck’s next contract will be the “new landmark deal” in the NFL.

THE QB MARKET: Ryan Fitzpatrick is still a free agent. Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been traded despite assurances that a deal would happen. So what gives?

THE DRAFT’S BEST BLOCKER: Ronnie Stanley could be the best tackle in the draft. Mississippi’s Laremy Tunsil has athleticism and as much upside as any offensive tackle in the draft this year. However, when push comes to shove, retired NFL defensive end says he’d take Notre Dame’s Ronnie Stanley before Tunsil.

USED GIRAFFE: Buccaneers want to trade Mike Glennon, or extend him. One seems more likely than the other.

SHUT UP, JIM IRSAY: Colts owner Jim Irsay compares the risks of football to the risks of taking an aspirin. Well, if anyone would know the risks of popping pills, it’s Jim Irsay.

DWTS RECAP: Antonio Brown got robbed on Dancing with the Stars. Recapping episode 2.

BEAST MODE WANTED TO BE A PACKER: Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo Bill, to Jermichael Finley: “Tell Ted Thompson to come get me.” Marshawn Lynch once went up to Jermichael Finley and Aaron Rodgers at halftime of a Bills-Packers game, back when Lynch was in Buffalo, and told them: “Tell Ted Thompson to come get me.”

COOKIN’: The Packers signed tight end Jared Cook to a one-year, $2.75 million deal. Green Bay gets its tight end, and does so at quite a discount while maintaining long-term flexibility. Cook was a huge bust with the Rams, but with Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball he could turn things around pretty quick.

FAIRLEY DEAL: Saints sign DT Nick Fairley to a one-year deal. The Saints continue to add help on the defensive side of the ball, and they got rid of Rob Ryan so that’s already an improvement.

BOYKIN BOUNCES BACK: Brandon Boykin officially signs with the Panthers. The drama which surrounded former Steelers CB Brandon Boykin is officially over, as the defensive back signed with the Carolina Panthers.
