SHAKE UP AMONG THE DRAFT’S TOP RECEIVERS
The best receiver in the 2016 NFL Draft isn’t who you think it is
A slow 40 time and questions about his overall ability on the field have moved Ol’ Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell down a few slots on most draft boards. He’s no longer a lock to be the first receiver picked in the draft this year.
Laquon Treadwell’s slumping draft stock. The Ole Miss receiver finally ran a 40-yard dash for NFL scouts, and it wasn't a good one. There's real reason to believe, based on precedent, that it could drop him into the last 10 picks or so of the first round. Treadwell posted this on his Instagram page. He's apparently in Cleveland.
Josh Doctson has everything an NFL team should want in a receiver. He can catch, he can separate himself from defenders ... what else could an NFL team possibly ask of their wide receiver? Stephen White breaks down the TCU product who could surprise a lot of people in the draft this year. Could Doctson end up being the first receiver off the board with Treadwell’s stock slipping?
SMALL SCHOOLS, BIG ARMS: 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft’s top QBs are from small schools. History shows that’s no worry. Carson Wentz’s and Paxton Lynch’s alma maters shouldn’t be reasons not to draft them.
CONGRATS, YOU GOT CARDALE: 15 reasons you should be delighted if your NFL team drafts Cardale Jones. If your team can’t use a powerful quarterback with a championship ring and tons of endearing personality, our team will happily welcome him.
BUY HIGH ON THE IRISH: Notre Dame’s prospects are going to be in demand in the top 75 picks of the draft. Ronnie Stanley is a sure-fire top 10 pick after his Thursday workout at the Irish pro day. And he wasn’t the only one turning heads.
DON'T HURT HACK: An open letter to NFL GMs: please don't let Christian Hackenberg get sacked any more. After years of being thrown around in college, he should go somewhere with room to run, a nice tire swing and an electric fence to keep all linebackers out.
THE LATEST ON THE POTENTIAL KAEPERNICK TRADE
Colin Kaepernick’s contract deadline passes: What it means going forward. Colin Kaepernick’s $11.9 million base salary for 2016 is now fully guaranteed. Will that hinder a trade? Is a trade even an option for the 49ers, or Chip Kelly smart enough to know that Blaine Gabbert probably isn’t going to do much for his coaching career?
The Broncos reportedly still want Kaepernick, but they would want him to restructure his deal, i.e. slash his overall compensation, before pulling the trigger on a trade.
SECOND CHANCES: RG3 and Hue Jackson are getting a second chance with the Browns. Hue Jackson hadn’t spoken to Griffin since 2012 until the Browns signed him last week. Now, their NFL futures are inextricably linked.
CHANGES FOR BEASLEY: Falcons want Vic Beasley playing more linebacker. Last year’s top pick may be slotted for a more diverse role in 2016.
THE LOS ANGELES SAGA CONTINUES: Chargers stadium report reopens door to Los Angeles for Raiders. Just when it seemed the possibility of the Raiders moving to LA was over, the door has been reopened after the Chargers have made significant progress in a possible downtown San Diego stadium.
RAWLS CLOSE TO RUNNING: Thomas Rawls: “I’ll be running soon.” This is good news for the Seahawks.
